The Kiel Castle is the ideal starting point for the Schleswig-Holstein tour Castles and Lakes of East Holstein, but almost any other departure point can also be included. After recognising that today’s event venue is no longer very ‘castle-like’, we begin our day trip in Schleswig-Holstein with a drive via Preetz (where a visit to the noble monastery and the associated monastery church from the 13th/14th century can be included) counterclockwise around the Great Plön Lake. On this part of our Schleswig-Holstein tour, we learn interesting facts about the formation and special features of the North German lowlands. You will also find out more about the itinerary for the day.

On the south-western shore of the Großer Plöner See, we make our first short stop to take a look at the ‘smallest cathedral in the world’, the St. Petri Church in Bosau. This 12th-century church was once a bishop’s seat and is now one of the few well-preserved fieldstone churches in Schleswig-Holstein. Continuing through the picturesque landscape of Holstein Switzerland, we reach Eutin (depending on the previous programme items, lunch (upscale or rustic) or coffee and cake can be planned here). We stroll through the narrow streets towards the market square and visit Eutin Castle with its beautiful castle park.

We continue to the climatic health resort of Bad Malente, in the middle of the beautiful lake and forest landscape of Schleswig-Holstein’s largest nature park. Here, if the season and weather conditions permit, we board a boat to enjoy the five lakes on the way to Plön from a different perspective. Once in Plön, we make our way to Plön Castle. This involves a short climb on foot, but the view over the Great Plön Lake and the castle, which now belongs to the Fielmann Academy, is well worth the effort. Optionally, you can then visit Plön itself (e.g. for coffee and cake) or the castle interior, depending on your schedule.

Afterwards, we will return to the starting point or another destination of your choice, taking with us many wonderful impressions of our beautiful Schleswig-Holstein. The Schleswig-Holstein tour Castles and Lakes of East Holstein described above, without the programme items suggested in brackets but including the boat trip, takes between 4 and 5 hours. This programme can be extended, shortened or changed according to individual preferences. Other manor houses or churches can be visited, other places for lunch can be chosen or another activity can be planned instead of the boat trip. It is possible to visit the buildings from the inside, but this must be arranged individually with the attractions and may incur an additional charge.
