HamburgGuideSarah @WFTGAHybridConference

There is one day left for you to register for the WFTGA Hybrid Conference. More information can be found in the WFTGA’s latest newsletter and in the following article in which your HamburgGuideSarah will explain what it’s all about and what her role as a coopted EXBO member and active and qualified tourist guide means to her.

Qualified Tourist Guides getting together

It’s one of my favourite times of year when qualified tourist guides from all over the world come together (this year in a hybrid mode) to exchange ideas, talk about the art and future of guiding, and socialise. I love to communicate in different languages, see how tourism in other countries is perceived, which great ideas colleagues from other regions have and have put into practice.

Exchange of ideas and training

During our biannual conferences, we offer interactive workshops, inspiring speakers, the general assembly but also a great side programme, which is a bit reduced this time due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, we have found a way to have tourist guides from every corner of the world participate – in our first ever hybrid meeting with the in person hub being Madrid. Check our schedule for more information.

HamburgGuideSarah as coopted Secretary

For the last year, I have served as a coopted secretary in the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations. I must admit, it wasn’t always easy – especially in times of pandemic when we could never be sure whether what we had planned could really be put into practice. Working with an international team – remotely throughout different time zones poses challenges we needed to tackle and overcome. This has left traces in each of us Board Members – but not only scars – also achievements!

I’m looking forward to the convention although I’ll be „retiring“ from the board – at least for now – to dedicate my time to other interesting challenges in my home association – Hamburg Guides.
