Abschreckung und Verteidigung in Hamburg

Wir beginnen beim Hammaburg-Platz, der ehemaligen Hammaburg aus dem 8. Jahrhundert, und entdecken wie die Verteidigungsanlagen zu der Zeit aussahen, und was es dazu noch Wissenswertes gibt. Gleich in der Nähe finden wir mit dem ehemaligen Bischofsturm und der Neuen Burg sowohl die bischöfliche als auch die gräfliche Version der Abschreckung gegenüber dem jeweils anderen « Oberhaupt » aus dem 9. Jahrhundert. Die Straßen « Alter Wall » und « Neuer Wall » sind die Inbegriffe der mittelalterlichen Verteidigungsanlagen Hamburgs – und seiner Expansionslinien. Hier erfahren wir auch, was in diesen « Grenzgebieten » so vor sich ging. Einen Quantensprung in Sachen Verteidigung machte Hamburg jedoch im 17. Jahrhundert mit dem Bau der großen Befestigungsanlagen, die sowohl zur Verteidigung als auch zur Abschreckung gleichermaßen dienten. Heute sind sie noch präsent durch die Straßennamen: Steintorwall, Klosterwall, Glockengießerwall, Gorch-Fock-Wall und Holstenwall. Diese zu erkunden ist ein absolutes Muss auf dieser Tour, obwohl uns kein einziger Stein erhalten blieb. Weiter führt uns der Weg vorbei an Mahnmalen, zum Ersten und Zweiten Weltkrieg, die wir als Abschreckung heute mit in unsere Bildung einfließen lassen. No tour of Hamburg on the theme of emigration would be complete without mentioning the name Albert Ballin. That’s why we start our Hamburg tour at the Hotel Atlantic, which was built at the beginning of the 20th century by Albert Ballin as a hotel for first-class emigrants. The building has been a listed building since October 2010. Parts of the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough were filmed there. In 2011, the hotel was once again awarded the highest rating of five stars superior. Passing the former city fortifications from the 16th and 17th centuries, the Glockengießerwall, we reach the Ballinhaus, which today houses HAPAG-LLOYD and is also displayed in large golden letters. Albert Ballin took over the management of HAPAG (Hamburg-America Line) in 1888 and integrated the company into the emigration business as the Hamburg-America Line. In 1970, HAPAG merged with Germanischer Lloyd from Bremen to form HAPAG-LLOYD. Hamburg and the Emigration

We start at Hammaburg Square, the former Hammaburg from the 8th century, and discover what the defensive structures looked like at the time and other interesting facts. Nearby, we find both the episcopal and the count’s versions of deterrence against each other’s ‘supreme rulers’ from the 9th century in the form of the former bishop’s tower and the New Castle. The streets Alter Wall and Neuer Wall are the epitome of Hamburg’s medieval defences – and its lines of expansion. Here we also learn what went on in these ‘border areas’. However, Hamburg made a quantum leap in terms of defence in the 17th century with the construction of large fortifications that served both as defence and deterrent. Today, they are still present in the street names: Steintorwall, Klosterwall, Glockengießerwall, Gorch-Fock-Wall and Holstenwall. Exploring these is an absolute must on this tour, even though not a single stone remains. The route continues past memorials to the First and Second World Wars, which we incorporate into our education today as a deterrent. After recognising that today’s event venue is no longer very ‘castle-like’, we begin our day trip in Schleswig-Holstein with a drive via Preetz (where a visit to the noble monastery and the associated monastery church from the 13th/14th century can be included) counterclockwise around the Great Plön Lake. Les églises sont poussiéreuses, froides et ennuyeuses ? Je ne suis pas du tout d’accord ! Depuis des temps immémoriaux, les églises sont au cœur de chaque paysage urbain et attirent les visiteurs comme par magie. Au cours de cette visite guidée, je vous emmène dans l’univers de l’Église évangélique du Nord, qui regroupe les quatre/cinq principales églises de Hambourg. Nous commencerons notre visite par l’église Pilgerkirche St. Jacobi, qui, avec son orgue Arp Schnitger, attire encore aujourd’hui les amateurs d’orgue de toute l’Allemagne. Après avoir admiré les autels et l’intérieur de l’église, nous nous rendrons à quelques mètres de là, à l’église « City-Kirche » St. Petri, qui abrite encore aujourd’hui des objets provenant de l’ancienne cathédrale Sainte-Marie de Hambourg. We meet at the harbour in Glückstadt, a town whose name alone conveys a positive atmosphere. After a welcome and presentation of the programme against the picturesque backdrop of the Elbe, we set off for Brunsbüttel, where we take a look at the lock chambers at the entrance to the Kiel Canal and, weather permitting, cross over by ferry. With a bit of luck, we will be able to observe one of the 100 ships that pass through the NOK every day. This Schleswig-Holstein tour continues through Marne, the carnival capital of Schleswig-Holstein, to Friedrichskoog, where we can take a short walk on the dyke along the waterfront. With the Wadden Sea just offshore, this little corner of the world also offers other interesting places to explore on foot. Nous commençons par la place Hammaburg, l’ancienne Hammaburg du VIIIe siècle, et découvrons à quoi ressemblaient les fortifications à l’époque et tout ce qu’il y a à savoir à ce sujet. Tout près de là, nous trouvons l’ancienne tour épiscopale et le nouveau château, qui sont les versions épiscopale et comtale de la dissuasion envers l’autre « chef » du IXe siècle. Les rues « Alter Wall » et « Neuer Wall » sont les symboles par excellence des fortifications médiévales de Hambourg et de ses lignes d’expansion. Nous découvrons également ici ce qui se passait dans ces « zones frontalières ». Hambourg a toutefois fait un bond en avant en matière de défense au XVIIe siècle avec la construction de grandes fortifications qui servaient à la fois de défense et de moyen de dissuasion. Wir treffen uns am Hafen in Glückstadt, einer Stadt, die durch ihren Namen schon eine positive Grundstimmung vermittelt. Nach einer Begrüßung und der Vorstellung des Programms vor der malerischen Kulisse der Elbe machen wir uns auf den Weg nach Brunsbüttel, wo wir uns die Schleusenkammern der Einfahrt in den Nord-Ostsee-Kanal beschauen und, wenn das Wetter es zulässt, mit der Fähre übersetzen. Mit etwas Glück können wir eines der 100 Schiffe beobachten, die täglich durch den NOK fahren. Weiter führt uns diese Schleswig-Holstein-Tour durch Marne, der Karnevalshauptstadt Schleswig-Holsteins nach Friedrichskoog, wo wir einen kleinen Spaziergang auf dem Deich an der Waterkant unternehmen können. Mit dem vorgelagerten Wattenmeer bietet dieses Fleckchen Erde auch weitere interessante Erkundungen zu Fuß. Durch reichlich Marschland erreichen wir auf dieser Schleswig-Holstein-Tour dann Meldorf, wo ich Ihnen anschaulich darstellen kann, wie viel Land die Bevölkerung hier durch ihre sogenannten Köge dem Meer abgetrotzt hat. Das Schleswig-Holsteinische Landwirtschaftsmuseum nennt Meldorf seine Heimat und auch historische Handweberei kann dort erlebt werden. Nach einer kurzen Besichtigung des Meldorfer Doms fahren wir nach Büsum, das uns schon von weitem mit seinem Leuchtturm grüßt. Während also der Abend locker beginnt, gebe ich Euch ein paar Informationen zum Hafen, den Landungsbrücken, dem Alten Elbtunnel, der Musicalwelt in Hamburg.

To experience Hamburg, it is advisable to move a little outside the city centre for this Hamburg tour. We therefore meet with the bikes at the HSV football stadium, the Volksparkstadion. On this tour, I will take you on a journey into the world of the Protestant North Church, which maintains the four/five main churches in Hamburg. From the Vikings and Danes to the people of Schleswig and Gottorf, via the Dutch to Emperor William; this tour through Schleswig-Holstein has it all: a major part of the different histories of Schleswig-Holstein. We start with the Vikings of the 8th and 9th century in Haithabu, one of the Vikings most important settlements, and since 2018 UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. Therefore we also visit the Danevirke. This Schleswig-Holstein tour further leads us to Gottorf’s Castle in Schleswig. This castle, formerly surrounded by moats, at the end of the river Schlei, today hosts the Archaeological Museum and despite (or maybe thanks to) its now 800 years, it is still picturesque. Our way leads us across Hostein to Husum’s castle, the only castle from the 16th century, which is still maintained on Schleswig-Holstein’s westcoast. Nous nous retrouvons au port de Glückstadt, une ville dont le nom seul suffit à mettre de bonne humeur. Après un accueil et la présentation du programme devant le décor pittoresque de l’Elbe, nous prenons la route pour Brunsbüttel, où nous pouvons observer les sas à l’entrée du canal de Kiel et, si le temps le permet, traverser en ferry. Avec un peu de chance, nous pourrons observer l’un des 100 navires qui traversent quotidiennement le canal. Ce circuit dans le Schleswig-Holstein nous mène ensuite à Marne, la capitale du carnaval du Schleswig-Holstein, puis à Friedrichskoog, où nous pourrons faire une petite promenade sur la digue au bord de l’eau. Avec la mer des Wadden au large, ce petit coin de terre offre également d’autres possibilités d’exploration intéressantes à pied. Après avoir traversé de vastes marais, nous arriverons à Meldorf, où je pourrai vous montrer clairement combien de terres la population a gagnées sur la mer grâce à ses « Köge » (terres gagnées sur la mer).
