Cycling tour in the Hamburg region by Reiseplus
Four days, almost 200 kilometers. That’s how I summed up the Reiseplus guided cycle tour that I led last week. It started with an evening city tour of Hamburg, where I was able to get to know the guests better.
The first full-day excursion took us through the Altes Land region by bike. We started in Finkenwerder, marveled at the huge Airbus site and cycled through Neuenfelde to Buxtehude. In this small Hanseatic town, my guests were able to treat themselves to a lunch break after a short tour of the town. We then continued our cycle tour through Jork, along the Elbe to Stade. The picturesque impression was enhanced by a short tour of the town and we ended the day with dinner in the Ratskeller Stades. Approx. 51 km. On the second day of this guided cycle tour, we set off on a half-day excursion through the Vier- und Marschlande region. We started in Geesthacht with a few small stops, including the longest fish ladder in Europe, and then cycled along the Elbe to Zollenspieker Fährhaus for a nice lunch break. We then continued along the Marschbahndamm to Bergedorf, where, after a brief visit to the town, my work as a tour guide for the day came to an end. Approx. 35 km.
On our third day of the trip, we set off on our bikes along the banks of the Kiel Canal. We began our cycle tour with a short loop through Burg (Dithmarschen) and then, after crossing over on the ferry, headed east along the south side of the canal. In Hanerau-Hademarschen, we visited Theodor Storm’s retirement home before cycling along the north bank of the canal to Rendsburg. Once we arrived in Rendsburg, we got a brief impression of the town before I declared the day as tour guide to be over. Approx. 60 km.
On the fourth and final day, we marveled at the Elbe from our bikes. The start of today’s cycle tour was Glückstadt. We briefly explored the town on our bikes before cycling along the Elbe along paths more or less lined with sheep and their accessories. We stopped for lunch at a small patisserie with an adjoining café, waited out the brief shower and then continued on our way to Wedel. At Willkomm-Höft we marveled at a few large pots and then took the last stage with an uphill section to Blankenese. Approx. 55 km. Overall, the sun was shining 90% of the time during the trip, so the souvenir photos should all make a good impression. I would like to thank my guests for accompanying me on the tours and hope to see them again in Hamburg and/or the surrounding area. If you are interested in my other tours, please have a look at my tours page or contact me via the contact form. I look forward to seeing you!
