On a pilgrimage with Krauze Travel from Fátima
The day began with a German mass in the apparition chapel of the Fátima Sanctuary. We were used to the fact that our Polish co-religionists always celebrated their mass at least 15 minutes later than us, but the fact that the German main celebrant also renounced German punctuality threw our schedule into disarray. So we started 15 minutes later after breakfast… Carlos, our beloved bus driver, was therefore over-punctual.
Our first stop of the day was in Óbidos. A medieval village – picturesque, but now discovered by tourists. Here, the more adventurous could take a walk along the 1.6 km long preserved town wall, while the more leisurely could stroll through the main street and visit various tasting stands for the typical cherry liqueur, ginja, before visiting the church. Chocolate jars included…
In Lisbon, we then met our local guide Filip, who calmly and patiently explained his city to us, including the various sights such as the Rossio, the former cattle market, the main street down to the trading square, the Hieronimus Monastery with its church and the Belém district with its tower. After a 45-minute delay, we arrived in Fátima in time for dinner and were able to enjoy the candlelight procession one last time.
The farewell mood had already been set at dinner, when the Hotel Cinquentenario presented us with a small candle as a souvenir and a port wine as a farewell gift. Some participants are said to have treated themselves to another glass late in the evening… If you would like to find out more about my travel services, you are welcome to do so under Travel or you can contact me directly to arrange an individual tour.
