Experience the north with Neubauer Reisen
Due to the bright sunshine, we started our journey, which took us south for the first time today, with several photo stops – the first one in Honningsvag, at the stockfish. We drove through picturesque scenery along the Porsangerfjord to reach the west coast of Norway for the first time. We made a one-hour stop in the northernmost town in Europe, Hammerfest.
As no one in the group could decide to become a member of the Royal Polar Bear Club, we continued on from this Hurtigruten port to Alta. On the journey, it was noticeable that the vegetation up here is nowhere near as advanced as it is here. Barren plateaus with snow and hardly a green leaf were our companions for a few minutes.
Once we arrived in Alta, we were able to enjoy an early dinner and then head into town or visit the nearby shopping center or the Northern Lights Cathedral, which opened in 2013. What a sight the concrete building is, clad in titanium panels.
